Ford is reportedly asking the federal court in California to toss a lawsuit which accuses the car maker of promoting defective electric power-assisted steering systems used in its flagship Fusion and Focuse.

The lawsuit was filed by six plaintiffs in U.S. District Court in San Jose claiming the car maker manufactured, distributed, marketed faulty electric power-assisted steering systems in its vehicles.

Ford has not yet issued a recall related to the problem, and it has asked the court to dismiss the case because the plaintiffs have not yet given proof of false advertisements.

Automotive news reported Ford saying: "though in broad scope and long words, the complaint is short on facts, and should be dismissed for many reasons."

It added, "Plaintiffs point to various consumer complaints, but that is not enough to demonstrate that a manufacturer knew there was a systemic defect in a range of products, as plaintiffs allege."
